These drawings use the technique of rubbing charcoal on the page and then erasing the lighter areas on the paper with little addition of more media. This is a very direct method of working and a completely opposite form of action than making a book.

I like to observe shapes and objects that are mostly bypassed, ignored or even thought ugly, by the general public. The telephone poles are a ubiquitous part of 21st century life. The tops of houses or back alleyways are also unobserved. But the shapes that are created by light and shadow on these solid structures are beautifully compelling.

The drawings of Provincetown architecture are important to me in two ways. The idea that these structures are being preserved and not knocked down to make room for newer and larger homes is significant and also working on these images reminds me of the wonderful summer I spent in Provincetown.
